Planning your elopement in a breathtaking location like Mount Rainier can be exciting but understanding the permit process might seem daunting. I'm here to simplify it for you! Keep in mind that Mount Rainier National Park requires permits for weddings or elopements within its boundaries.


To start the process, fill out the application here, and then email it to mora_special_use@nps.gov.


After receiving and reviewing your request, the permit coordinator will provide instructions for paying the non-refundable $175 application fee online. Remember, your application fee must be paid before the permit is issued!


Securing Your Marriage License for Your Mt. Rainier Elopement

Once you've obtained your permit, the next step is to look into the requirements for obtaining your Washington marriage license.

Spring Elopement in Mount Rainier:

Keep in mind that this is shoulder season, and snow may persist until June.

  1. Naches Peak Loop: Naches Peak Loop is an excellent choice for an elopement due to its stunning panoramic views. As you hike along the loop, you'll be surrounded by wildflowers, meadows, and breathtaking mountain scenery. Its peaceful and secluded atmosphere makes it the perfect spot for an intimate ceremony! The best time to visit this trail is from June through September. Please note that dogs aren't allowed on this trail.

  2. Tipsoo Lake: Situated at 5,298 feet elevation, Tipsoo Lake offers a picturesque setting for an intimate elopement. Exchanging vows against the crystal-clear waters of the lake creates a magical backdrop. With vibrant alpine meadows surrounding the area, Tipsoo Lake is an enchanting location for a romantic ceremony! Accessible via SR410, it's open to vehicles during the summer, typically from July to October. Keep in mind that Tipsoo Lake can experience heavy visitation, and parking can be limited.

  3. Tolmie Peak: If you're seeking iconic Mount Rainier views, Tolmie Peak is the perfect choice. This iconic peak features beautiful deep valleys and pristine alpine lakes. While the hike to Tolmie Peak can be challenging, the reward is worth the effort! Imagine saying your vows surrounded by nature's beauty that Mount Rainier has to offer. This trail is open only from June to September, and dogs are not allowed.

  4. Mount Fremont Lookout: For a more adventurous elopement, Mount Fremont Lookout offers a unique experience. Perched high above the surrounding landscape, it provides a panoramic view of the Cascade Range. An outdoor wedding ceremony on the summit of the mountain is both beautiful and memorable due to its rugged beauty and the sense of accomplishment from reaching its summit. Note that this location is not accessible for spring/winter elopements, and pets are not allowed.

  5. Grove of the Patriarchs Trail: Dreaming of a magical or whimsical forest elopement? The Grove of the Patriarchs Trail is the perfect location. Some of the trees along this trail are more than 1,000 years old. The trail winds through an old-growth forest filled with towering ancient trees. The lush greenery, moss-covered logs, and serene atmosphere make for an enchanting setting for an elopement!
